Polka dot crazy

posted Wednesday, 14 May 2008

Okay, it appears polka dots make me a little crazy.  I splurged on an Oscar De La Renta polka dot wrap dress to wear for my last day in front of a class "lecturing."  I'd been watching it on macys.com for a while and figured it would only go so low in price, so I went for it.  Of course, it was $111.00 which to me, is astronomical.  Remember, the madam loves a bargain.  This doesn't qualify.  But I'm earning some money now so that reduces my retail guilt somewhat.  Let's see if I can insert a photo! Oh hell - it's way beyond my technical abilities.  Here's a link: http://shopping.msn.com/reviews/shp/?itemId=984696245

Anyhoo, I felt so swirly and fun in that dress that I pretty much demanded Mr. Ovary take me out to dinner.  Lying Child can babysit if we keep it to an hour or so.  Over and hour and the cell phone rings with some sort of complaint or general hysteria.

We ended up at a fancy place, which we could get into because it was Tuesday.  Ironically, it's the same place we went to the night of our rehearsal dinner.  My parents take you out for a drink there and then bestow their wedding present.  Which is a pretty good sized check.  But then, the place was all dark and burgundy velvet and paneling.  Now it's all light and airy and FANCY Schmancy.  So I had this amazing dinner (of course it was chicken, but that's all the madam eats - loser that she is), and two glasses of wine.  And then Mr. Ovary wanted dessert (he promised its his last one...hmmmm) and espresso, so smart girl that I am, I had ANOTHER glass of wine.  The waitress informed me that wine is a favorite dessert among mommies.

And today I feel fine!  Amazing.  I was quite the fun mommy when I got home, though.  Shooting hoops with Lying Child and Middle - all loosy goosy. Then I did some drunken downloading - I'm trying to come up with the cyber alternative to what we used to call "Drink and Dial" -which means calling the wrong people whenyou're drunk.  Any suggestions???  I came up with "tip and type" which is not remotely good enough.  So I think I checked the blog, and some other blogs, and then shut down.  By then three little ovaries had managed to climb into bed with me and Mr. Ovary was downstairs channel surfing the espresso out of his system.  I wanted to go down for some nookie but I was too lazy.  "Maybe he'll come up here..." Snore.....Another missed opportunity to actually fool around at night.  We're both so exhausted we usually only manage daytime nookie - and we tell the kids we're doing "banking" and can't be disturbed.  Then Dexter whimpers outside the bedroom door, and Middle screams: "We know what you're doing in there!"  It's really hot - you should try it sometime.  I'll loan you the kids and the dog.

I woke up at 2 am alone in bed with baby girl, who was literally on top of me, trying to climb back into the womb.  WHOA - have to stop a minute - my ipod has finally gotten to Journey's "Don't stop Believing".  I'm wiggling in my chair.

So Baby Girl is half asleep and telling me I need to snuggle her properly, which involves me falling half out of the bed.  That's when I realized she probably needed to pee.  So we got up, had some iced tea, checked for alligators in the toilet, had a little sit down once we established it was safe, and went back to bed.  The iced tea was a good idea for me, since I swallowed some motrin in preparation for my hangover.  ANd it worked!  I also think having better quality wine helps a bit, too.  I had the $9 glass, to go with my polka dots.  I was celebrating.

Now I am in my office, waiting for students who might have questions on the final exam.  None have shown up.  I wonder why...oh, wait, that's right.  They aren't studying....how could I forget?  Otay, gotta go.  I have 130 grades to tally up with my handy-dandy calculator.  And Paula Abdul has come on, and I have to change this song immediately.  I must have been drinking when I downloaded this one...

"Questions on the final exam," ha, snort, that's good. Awesome dress. There was always something about the landlord working on something in the basement that made the X amorous. How did I ever face that man?
